Brought to Europe in 2009 thanks to a Dutch enthusiast, and officially recognised
by the Italian Golf Federation in 2013, Footgolf is a blend between golf and soccer;
thanks to its immediacy and simplicity, it is winning over more and more players
around the world.
An 18-hole Footgolf course, inaugurated in March 2015 for the first stage of the Inter-Regional Centre-North Championship of the Italian Footgolf Association, now stands next to the prestigious UNA Golf Poggio dei Medici golf course, one of the most beautiful in Italy, in the Mugello valley at the feet of the Apennines.
Footgolf is played according to the same rules as golf, with one substantial difference: instead of a golf ball, a soccer ball is used, and holes or “cups” have a diameter of 50 centimetres. The aim of the game is to work one's ball into the cup using one's feet only, and with the smallest number of strokes.
Many VIPs and former football pros are enthusiastic about this sport, which brings together the elegance and relaxation of golf and the popularity of football.
One can play by oneself or in a team, over 9 or 18 holes, in two ways: “Match Play” (victory goes to the player who plays into the highest number of holes) or “Stroke Play” (like in golf, victory goes to the player who plays the whole course with the smallest number of strokes).
Special subscription rates are available for those who wish to become members and play regularly on the course.
